‘Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made of.’
~ Benjamin Franklin
“Concern for man and his fate must always form the chief interest of all technical endeavors …Never forget this in the midst of your diagrams and equations.”
~ Albert Einstein
Everyone’s travels their own road, path or journey. We cannot travel someone else’s road, as much as we sometimes would like too. This wild rob us and those people of our own opportunities and life lessons. No matter how difficult the road is for you or how easy it looks for someone else, we must be content to walk on our journey. Only we can see the beauty for which our lives have been created.
Dorothea Mackellar, one of Australia’s most iconic poets wrote the well known poem; My Country. A homesick Mackellar wrote the words to this poem when she was in England. She longed to be back in the land that she loved and penned these words to show how much she loved Australia.
I am Australian and deeply love my country. The words of this poem have touched me since I first read it as a little girl and throughout my journeys in Australia the words are often in my heart. As I take photographs of this great, wide and beautiful land I know that I am blessed to live in the greatest country in the world.
Here is my favourite verse from the poem and I hope my photograph above, helps to illustrate the beauty of this great land.
‘I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror –
The wide brown land for me!’
This photo was taken north of Rockhamton, Queensland. It was a brisk morning during winter when I ventured out for a walk with my camera. I had not been walking long when I stopped to take this photo and in the moment I knew that what I had captured was beautiful.
As we journey along the road of life we quite often do not know where we are going. The track could be into the unknown as the tracks in this photo disappear into the fog. Where are we going? How will we get there? What we will go through?
Unfortunately we will never know exactly where the path of life will take us. The only thing that will keep our lives on the right track is to never give up hoping. Jeremiah 29:11 assures us “For I know the thoughts that I think towards you says the Lord, plans to prosper you and give you a future and a hope”
In the darkest days when there seems no point to living life and continuing on our track, we have to assure ourselves that there is a hope. There is a hope that God in Heaven in looking out for us even when we see our track heading….into the fog.
